Organs for Life

Have you Given the Gift of Life?

At Organs For Life our motto is Give The Gift Of Life, and by doing exactly that as an individual you can save or improve up to 9 lives! What better gift to give back to the universe!

Organs For Life came together when a group of friends were inspired by a real life story of their close friend Anand Popat who suffers from a genetic disorder called Cystic Fibrosis. He was diagnosed with this life-threatening disease from birth, however more recently as the condition has worsened, Anands’ only hope of survival would be a potential double lung transplant.

Sharing the same passion and commitment, we at Organs For Life believe that the importance of being an organ donor needs to be heavily promoted, especially within the BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnics) community.

The BAME community are more likely to need an organ transplant than the rest of the UK as they are more susceptible to illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes and certain forms of hepatitis, all of which may result in organ failure and the need for a lifesaving transplant. Yet 66% of BAME communities living in the UK refuse to give permission for their loved ones organs to be donated.

Do people really know enough about organ donation? Why are people refusing to become donors? As there are so many questions that need answering, we set up a questionnaire to find out exactly what is stopping people from doing such an incredible deed.

From our analysis we established that 55% of people had not signed up simply because they did not know enough about organ donation or because they had not made time or even thought about it. People tend to fear the unknown and due to the lack of knowledge on this topic people are more likely to feel uncomfortable signing up as a donor.

We held our very first event at Tesco Extra over a weekend, which proved to be successful as we were able to offer face-to-face advice and sign up a significant number of people onto the donor register. This has just been the beginning of our journey.

Organs For Life aim to raise awareness and answer any questions that the public may have, by offering information as well as the opportunity to register onto the donor list.

So… Be The Hope, Change A Life and REGISTER TODAY. Together lets make change!
